Our Kind of Curriculum: Schooling Eighth Graders with the McLaren MP4-12C

While most of us enjoyed doodling supercars in the margins of our grade school notebooks, eighth graders at Twin Valley Middle School in Elverson, Pennsylvania took a more hands-on approach, using McLaren's $ 229,000 MP4-12C as the subject.

The multidisciplinary focus encompassed several months of classes, including math, language arts, algebra, and of course, science. "This project started because of a fundamental belief that I hold that education must be real, relevant and rigorous," says teacher Rachel Smith. The curriculum culminated with an in-person visit by the 592 horsepower British two-seater, courtesy McLaren Philadelphia, one of nine licensed dealerships in the U.S.
